Community support

Beyond the Shopfront

Many may recognise Creative Gunning for its shop located on the main street of Gunning, which showcases a remarkable selection of unique arts and craft items created by our talented members. However, Creative Gunning is much more than a retail space supporting visitors and local arts and craft practitioners. The shop’s proceeds play a vital role in assisting the broader community in a variety of meaningful ways.

Workshops and Community Activities

Recently, Creative Gunning organised Fibre to Fabric days, offering participants the hands-on opportunity to experience each step involved in transforming the renowned Gunning wool and alpaca fibre into yarn. In addition, we have hosted free children’s craft workshops, including sessions at the Gunning District Association community day and as part of the Upper Lachlan Arts, Culture and Heritage Trail, encouraging creativity and engagement among younger community members.

Community Contributions in 2025

In 2025, Creative Gunning made several significant contributions to the local community. These included serving as Silver Sponsors for the Gunning Show, making a donation to the Gunning Community Health Service Ladies Lunch, and donating thirteen quilts to individuals in need, reflecting our ongoing commitment to community wellbeing.

Winter Warmers Exhibition and Sale

Our annual Winter Warmers Exhibition and Sale took place in May 2025, held in memory of one of our founding members, Ros McLoughlin. The event was a resounding success, raising over $1,000 for the Gunning Garden Club. These funds were used to install a bench outside the post office, accompanied by a commemorative plaque honouring Ros’s lasting legacy.

Gunning Patchwork Weekend

The Gunning Patchwork Weekend, held during the last weekend of June each year, brings together over fifty enthusiastic patchworkers. This event provides a welcoming space for participants to collaborate, share their ideas and expertise, and offer mutual support, strengthening the fabric of our creative community.

Stash and Treasure Sale

Our annual Stash and Treasure Sale occurs on the first Sunday in March, giving the community a chance to buy and sell arts and craft materials. The sale has become a trusted avenue for families to donate the treasured craft room contents of departed loved ones, ensuring that a lifetime’s collection of crafting materials continues to inspire and find new purpose in the hands of others.
